Why I care

In August 2019 I was able to spend a day at the export workshop of Velafrica as a volunteer of Credit Suisse in Bern. This gave me the opportunity to work with asylum seekers from different countries and to get to know Hyscent from Cameroon. I experienced him as a very friendly, out-going and highly motivated individual with a passion for reparing bicycles and preparing them for the export to Africa. His situation is challenging and with this project, we aim to enable Hyscent to complete an apprenticeship for 10 months to increase his chances of a successful integration into the labour market and our society.

For Hyscent, this apprenticeship at Velafrica is a great chance to do something meaningful, to be part of a caring and helpful team as well as to learn German in a professional environment. Those qualities are the foundation of a successful development and integration into the labour market.

I support this project because it does not only support one individual but it can send out a positive signal to other asylum seekers and social institutions in the region. All parties involved can benefit from this "somewhat different apprenticeship". Another important fact for me is, that Velafrica is collecting and repairing thousands of used bicycles of good quality and sending them to Africa in order to increase the mobility of the people and is supporting mechanics together with partner organizations locally.

With the funding of Hyscent’s apprenticeship, we can not only increase his chances for a successful integration into the labour market but also help increase the mobility of people in Africa for example to transport water or medical supplies in a more efficient manner.

Hyscent started his apprenticeship in October 2019 and is expected to complete the programme in July 2020. With this project we are looking to raise a total amount of CHF 9,000.00 in order to finance Hyscent’s monthly salary of CHF 900.00. With this campaign, we would contribute at least 3 monthly salaries. Together, we can make this happen. Thank you very much for your support!

Meine Motivation

MERCI!
