New York Cares
Mission
Our programs operate in-person and virtually (by video and phone) in all five boroughs. We strive towards three overarching program objectives:
- Expand food access programs to meet the city’s ongoing critical need for hunger relief.
- Meet the mental and physical health needs of isolated populations, including seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, through programs that foster connection, screen for essential services, and promote physical activity.
- Close the education gap for students at high risk of learning loss through programs that facilitate academic tutoring, social emotional learning, college access, and technology support.
We continue to increase our impact through meaningful, volunteer-led programming. In our fiscal year 2020, we served 1,267,210 vulnerable New Yorkers at 800 Community Partner sites. To achieve this scale, we engaged, trained, and managed 40,968 generous volunteers – more than 1,000 of whom were active Team Leaders – from the five boroughs.
