Across the nation, 1/3 of all transitioned veterans are underemployed, meaning that the jobs they have are not in alignment with their needs, skills and value to the workplace. The underemployment rate in military spouses is even higher, well exceeding 50%. Veterans have very little access to civilian networks, which limits access to job opportunities and careers. The national average job retention rate for veterans in their first post-military job is only 56% since they frequently feel they must take the first opportunity open to them instead of waiting for a strong fit.
