Muddy Paws Rescue
Mission
Despite the hard work of the New York City Animal Care Centers, the number of dogs who enter their facilities far outpaces the amount of space and funding available to care for them, and the dogs who face the highest risk of euthanasia depend on New Hope Rescue Partners like MPR for rehabilitation.
As a New Hope partner, we pull animals from the shelter environment and place them in foster care. In doing so, we incur added medical and behavioral costs to support these animals in their transition. Last year, we invested nearly $4,000 in dental cleanings for senior dogs from ACC, and we are projected to spend over $19,000 this year on professional dog training to ensure these dogs are properly set up for success and prevent them from re-entering the shelter system. To date, we have pulled 60 animals from NYC ACC. Employee support will allow us to increase our investment in local partnerships and pull more animals in need.
850 miles southwest of NYC, our partners at the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society work to stem the flow of homeless animals in their own community. Due to a lack of funding and inadequate education about the importance of spaying/neutering, the shelter regularly finds itself with an abundance of healthy adoptable animals and a dearth of interested adopters or physical space in which to care for the animals until an adoptive home is found. With a rural location and an intake of over 10,000 animals annually, it is impossible for the shelter to find homes for all of the animals within their own community without the support of rescue partners like MPR.
