South Asian Youth Action
Mission
Youth often face a sense of isolation during adolescence, a feeling that is amplified for young people of color from recent immigrant communities. Low income and first-generation students especially face barriers in earning their degree: according to the US Department of Education, only one in 10 youth from low-income families have a bachelor's degree by age 25, while less than one-quarter of first-generation students overall earn their bachelor’s degree. Recognizing that most of our youth are at a disadvantage when it comes to navigating college, we have developed a strategic and targeted approach to meeting their needs.
